Here’s What’s Happening In Our Neighborhood

Project 1: Reshaping the Hillside

A big swath of overgrown blackberries and wild rose bushes has been removed. An excavator sculpted the land to make access to the trailhead easier for all.

Project 2: Safety and Erosion Protection

Crushed gravel, which provides great traction for walkers, was distributed on the dirt slope to the gate. Gravel was hauled and spread on the steep parts of the trail beyond the gate. Brush was cleared from both sides of the trail, all the way to the beach!

The barbed wire was cut away from the top of the gate, it was hanging down, ready to snag the unwary. TALLER PEOPLE BEWARE – the top frame of the gate opening is low. Duck before you enter! Repairing this and finding a better lock are on our “To Do” list!

An erosion seed mix (40% rye grass) was spread over the sculpted berm and a straw covering was laid on top of the seeds. Some trenching for runoff water was done before the seeding.

Project 3: walking trail between ogden’s and hilles’ has been reclaimed!

The brush hog opened up the very overgrown entrance to this trail. After a lot of cutting, snipping, and pruning, the trail was cleared about 200 feet into this peaceful space! We hope to get this trail all the way down to the creek eventually but for now, one can hear the creek, just not see it.

We wish to give a big THANK YOU to all the community volunteers who made this happen (listed in order of appearance on the work crews).
